This year, Bol is enriching ‘Het Grote Speelgoedboek’ (The Big Toy Book) with a special activity section full of fun to play and read, printed on Crown Van Gelder’s Crown Native, paper made from sugar beet pulp. Sugar beet pulp is the residual flow that arises from sugar extraction from sugar beets. Crown Van Gelder has developed a process that makes this residual flow ideal for use in paper production. This gives the sugar beet more value for the farmer, because it is now used 100% efficiently, while at the same time the environmental footprint of the paper is drastically reduced by using this residual flow. In short, this innovation has only winners.
Martijn Uittenbogaard: “At bol, we are constantly looking for ways to further develop and make our Toy Book more sustainable. The use of beet pulp paper is a good example of this. With the activity book, we are taking the first step toward discovering where we can implement innovations that, if they prove to work well, can also be applied on a larger scale.”
